Oscar graduated in Journalism by the University of São Paulo in 1990. His career on TV began in 1987, while still studying, as assistant director of the TV news program “Jornal de Vanguarda” (Bandeirantes Network, 1988) . He later was a reporter for Folha de S. Paulo, the most important newspaper in Brazil (1989). After a short term as editor of the “Jornal da Noite” at SBT (the country’s second TV network at the time), Oscar was one of the founders of MTV Brazil, his first job as a director. Worked at Globo Network as producer and editor of special reports for Fantástico (1991), the most viewed weekly TV show of Brazilian TV. He returned to Abril Group (owner of the Brazilian MTV franchise at the time) in 1992 to launch the country’s first cable television channel, TVA, where he created the network’s programs department as production manager, accumulating the position of director for special shows.

In 1994, Oscar started directing commercials for 5.6 Productions, looking for better production standards. Since then he has been working for some of the most important agencies and clients around the world, such as:

Oscar started directing music videos in 1997 and became one of the most awarded directors in the country.

 

Among his 11 MTV Awards is the International Viewer’s Choice at the VMA 2002 for Titãs’ “Epitáfio”.

 

In 1999 Oscar became partner at Academia de Filmes, and in 2006 he founded his own company, Nuclear.

 

Oscar released his first long-form film in 2009: “Titãs”, on the 25 years of music adventures of the most important Brazilian rock band. The film was awarded Best Music Film at the 2009 MTV Video Music Brasil (VMB) Awards.

 

Because of his proximity with artists and bands through the music videos Oscar started to direct live concerts. He directed Brazilian singer/composer Djavan “Vaidade”, reggae band Cidade Negra “Direto”, Zelia Duncan “Eu me transformo em outras”, Simoninha & Max de Castro “O Baile do Simonal” (featuring various stars of Brazilian music), Zezé di Camargo & Luciano “20 anos de sucessos”, and Skank “Ao vivo no Mineirão”, a concert for 50.000 people at Mineirão Stadium celebrating the 20th anniversary of the pop band.

 

Going back to his TV roots, Oscar accepted the challenge to direct the live transmission of the Multishow (Globosat’s entertainment channel) Awards for two years in a row (2011 and 2012).

 

In 2012 Oscar participated of a workshop on stereoscopic 3D production in Krakow, Poland, created by his partner director of photography Slawomir Idziak (“Three colors: blue”, “Gattaca”, “Black Hawk Down”, “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”). Back to Brazil, Oscar produced and directed the first music video of a Brazilian artist produced on 3D. Skank’s “Presença” was screened during one month on more than 300 Cinemark theatres all over the country.

 

Oscar created the “Explora Sessions” project in 2015, taking Brazilian music stars to play their hits on amazing natural locations.

 

Oscar has frequently collaborated with Red Bull on national and global productions, from “Rock in Rio Festival” to the global series “Out of Frame”, directing the episode about musician/maker Arthur Joly.

 

Oscar is currently directing a new long form documentary on Brazilian percussionist Paulinho da Costa. Living in Los Angeles since 1973, Paulinho played with the greatest names of jazz and pop such as Michael Jackson, Madonna, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Quincy Jones, Red Hot Chilly Peppers, Earth Wind & Fire, Sting, Prince and many more.
